STAIRS OF READING

Step 1

Read the heading of the passage and understand what is being written in the upcoming passages. If the heading is not digestible try to read the initial few sentences of the first paragraph, if you are not able to understand the passage. In such a case try to deduce the meaning of the passage, it means make an anticipated meaning for unknown words, 80% of chances for understanding

Step 2

Read each question and underline the keywords of the question .In the question there may be two facets. Those are keywords of the question [most informative words in the questions] and the demand of the question [what, where, when, who, whom, whose, why, how….etc] the keywords will permit you to locate the passage, demand of the questions will focus on answer.

SPECIFIC TIPS FOR READING

Part A

There are usually three different task [questions 1 to 7, 8 to 14, 15 to 20] and four text. Read the instructions for each task carefully.

Read the headings and subheadings at first, try to understand the extract properly, if you don’t understand then read few lines of each extract initially to help you to understand the passage.

Underline the most important words [key words] in each question, grab the demand of the question. Think about possible synonyms in relation with question and passage, especially focus on adjectives, adverbs, prepositions and conjunctions..etc. Correlate the synonyms to the passage. Mostly answers could be seen the space where synonyms matches

Part B

There is no link between the six short texts.

Read each question before you read the corresponding text. Always think about the type of text you are looking at .Think about why you would read this type of text at work.

The words in the options [A, B ,C] are not always the same words that you read in the text, search for the synonyms or paraphrasing statements, answers will be in the forms of synonyms or paraphrases .

Always remember that you are being tested on your reading skills not your medical knowledge focus on what the passage speaks if go with medical knowledge answers can be wrong, because present knowledge and past knowledge regarding the topic would be differ. Do not worry if the topic is unfamiliar, read the text and try to find out the answer.

Part C

There are 2 texts on different topics with no link between both texts. There will be 8x2=16 questions, read the heading of the test try to understand the passage, without reading the entire passage, go to questions, read the questions and the options [four options are there] underline the key words [most informative words] try to match with the passage. Remember the words in the questions ( a,b,c,d) are not always the same words that you read in the text, be focused on paraphrases.

Each question asks you about one paragraph or section of the text. It follows the sequence of the test compared with other English test reading OET Classes in Gurgaon, reading is easier due to this reason.

SOME COMMON TIPS WHICH NEED TO APPLY IN ALL PARTS

Do not leave a question unanswered. If you are not sure, guess! Probably marks are not deducted for wrong answers. Because negative marking is not there. Try to write random answers, sometime it may be helpful for the success

Do not get panic if time is running out. Keep answering the questions and do as much as you can

SOME MISTAKES TO AVOID IN ALL PARTS

Part A

Do not change the words in the answer in any way. Copy the words, numbers and any symbols exactly as you see them in the text. If change there is a chance to go wrong

Make sure your answers are spelled correctly and legible. Spellings are so important

In A part task 2 and 3 do not write too much .You should write a word or a short phrase. If write too much there is a chance of mistakes in specification of answers

Part B

Do not choose an answer simply because it includes a word from the text, focus on the meaning of the passage

Do not use your medical knowledge to answer the question .Read what the text says.

Part C

Do not read both the text before you start answering the questions. Deal with the two texts one at a time.

COMMON POINTS FOR ALL PARTS

Do not read any part, all questions and text together first read 1 question then go with text and find out the answer always go with sequence .In a one time only attempt one question.

Do not waste too much time searching for one question, if it is not possible to find the answer, quickly move on to the next question and at the end come back to hard questions. Remember you have a lot to do in 45 minutes and 15 minutes.
